More about us
David Deuchar
I left school at 18 and worked in Nursing Homes for two years, looking after a broad age range and worked with people living with everything from Huntington’s Disease to Dementia, before joining the Police. After 18 years of working in the Police, and successfully studying for a degree, I left and ran the operations of a crisis management company in Lagos, Nigeria, where I managed a Paramedic and Fire/ Rescue service. I returned to the UK in 2017, as my father fell ill having suffered strokes, heart attacks and eventually Vascular Dementia. Back in the UK, I ran a public safety management consultancy and in 2019 I gained an MBA in Strategic Leadership and Management.
All of this personal and professional experience has brought me back to where I started, in the care sector. This is a sector I am passionate about, especially with the opportunities for innovation that I can see. Degenerative Brain diseases are devastating for everyone and I am committed to creating a company that not only provides outstanding care, but also ground-breaking use of technology that keeps families closer, and clients safer in their homes and in the community.

Anna Dalton
My career in care started some 30 years when, having left school and not knowing what I wanted to do, my mother suggested that I might like to help her out at the nursing home of which she was the Deputy Clinical Manager (in those days, she was called Matron). As soon as I started working with the elderly and those living with dementia, I decided that this was the career pathway that I was going to follow. My mother taught the Care Assistants ‘old fashioned’, basic nursing care, from helping someone to wash, to making a bed with hospital corners, and that we should always put the patient at the centre of everything that we did. I have never forgotten those early teachings and carry the same values now.
I am absolutely delighted to be a part of Mercia Homecare and working with David to provide person centered care to those who want to stay in their own home. I am passionate about providing our clients with the best care, delivered by the best staff, who are selected to match the needs of those they are caring for, both physically and emotionally.
Career Pathway
Having worked as a Care Assistant for 16 years and continued to take on additional responsibility, I decided to train to be a nurse. I studied at Southampton University and qualified as a nurse in 2005. Following my training, I worked in the Wessex Neurological Unit in both the wards and theatre. From there I went to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth where I worked in day surgery and accident and emergency. In 2012 I decided to take a break from hospital nursing and worked for 8 years in pharmaceuticals. My role was to visit patients in their own homes, teach them about the medication that they had been prescribed, and administer that medication. It was in this role that I learned the value of patients being at home in familiar surroundings. I saw each patient on a rolling 8-week basis and soon discovered the importance of continuity of care and the trust that is built in having a professional relationship with their named healthcare worker. It was in this role that I was awarded Nurse of The Year in my team which was based on feedback from patients and the hospital teams that I worked with.
Three years ago, I took a position as a Clinical Services Manager in a care home. All the ladies and gentlemen in our community were living with dementia and I was privileged to learn how to support them and their loved ones.
My role with Mercia Homecare is in a managerial capacity. However, I will maintain my professional membership with the Nursing & Midwifery council and continue to develop and enhance my skills, knowledge, and qualifications, and to continue to provide the best, evidence-based care to our clients.
